Photography Rooted in Adventure, Nature & Real Human Connection

For People Who Feel Most Alive Outside

Whether you’re hiking coastal trails, exploring hidden beaches, climbing mountains, building an outdoor brand, or simply looking for photography that feels honest and authentic, my goal is to create imagery rooted in real experience, natural connection, and adventure.

I believe the best photographs happen when people feel comfortable enough to truly be themselves, and some of the most meaningful moments happen outdoors, surrounded by the places that inspire us most.

Hi, I’m Dylan!

I’m a Vancouver Island photographer, storyteller, explorer, and outdoor enthusiast based in Nanaimo, BC.

Over the last decade, I’ve spent countless hours hiking remote trails, camping along rugged coastlines, exploring forgotten places, and documenting the landscapes and people that make Vancouver Island such an incredible place to experience.

Whether I’m photographing adventurous couples, outdoor brands, musicians, creatives, or hidden corners of the island that most people never see, I’m always chasing imagery that feels authentic, atmospheric, and grounded in real experience.

Why I Do It

Photography has always been more than just creating beautiful images for me. It’s about preserving atmosphere, documenting experiences, and capturing the feeling of being somewhere real.

Some of my favourite moments happen outdoors — standing on a rugged coastline at sunset, hiking through dense forest, discovering abandoned places, or sharing meaningful experiences with people who genuinely love being outside.

That connection to nature and adventure shapes everything I create.

I want the experience of being photographed to feel relaxed, collaborative, and enjoyable — not awkward, overly posed, or forced. The best images usually happen in the in-between moments: the laughter after the pose, the quiet moments watching the waves roll in, the wind in your hair halfway through a hike, or the feeling of reaching a beautiful location together after an adventure.

Those are the moments that feel real. Those are the moments worth remembering.

Photography Rooted in Adventure & Authenticity

The outdoors has never just been a backdrop to me. It’s where I feel most grounded, inspired, and connected to both people and place.

That connection shapes the way I approach photography.

I’m less interested in stiff poses or overly polished perfection and more interested in creating imagery that feels natural, immersive, and true to the moment. I want people to feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely themselves in front of the camera.

Whether you hike, kayak, mountain bike, rock climb, surf, or wander barefoot through the forest foraging mushrooms, I create photography that reflects your connection to the outdoors in a real and authentic way.

Some sessions involve hiking through forests at sunrise. Others happen on windy beaches, mountain trails, hidden waterfalls, or remote stretches of coastline. No matter the location, my goal is always the same: to create meaningful imagery that captures both the experience and the emotion behind it.

Beyond Photography

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me hiking forest trails, researching Vancouver Island history, exploring abandoned places, searching for hidden waterfalls, camping somewhere along the coast, or wandering through the woods trying to identify mushrooms I probably shouldn’t eat.

I’ve always been fascinated by Vancouver Island’s forgotten history and hidden places. Old coal mines around Nanaimo, remote ruins deep in the forest, mysterious local legends, abandoned structures slowly being reclaimed by nature — those kinds of stories have inspired both my photography and my writing for years.

I’m also pretty damn good at lighting a fire without matches.

And if you ever want someone to enthusiastically talk your ear off about Brother XII, Vancouver Island history, or hidden local adventures, I’m your guy.
